Our Christmas Letter

What a year 2006 has been. We have been so blessed and know that the Lord is watching out for us. In January Valerie decided to quite her job at United to stay home with TJ and she’s absolutely LOVED it. For her, there is nothing better than being a mother. In July Valerie started watching a three month old little girl two days a week, so those days are a little busy with two kids just five months apart, but it’s been a great preparation for when we have another child someday (no, no announcements here).

Matthew started out the year working for a company called Solucient, but in July he started working for the syndication arm of the Chicago Tribune as their Sales and Marketing Database Administrator. He really enjoys it so far, despite the long commute into the city, and enjoys working in such a historical building. He’s also had a good time in softball leagues and weekly basketball.

This year has been a year somewhat full of travel. TJ and I went to Utah in January and April, and then Matthew joined us for another trip to Utah in August for a Vincent Family reunion, which was a blast. In March TJ and I made the 13 hour drive to Atlanta, GA with Matthew’s parents for a wedding (Matthew had to stay home and work), and TJ did great for the most part. In June we took a little family vacation to Iowa to see the “Field of Dreams” movie site and enjoyed a picnic on the bleachers and playing catch on the field, as well as venturing out in to the “magic corn”. We also made the 8 hour drive to Pittsburgh over Labor Day in September to see some good friends who had moved there earlier in the year. In October we all went to San Francisco since Matthew had a business conference out there, so TJ and I did a lot of exploring on our own but we were able to spend a little family time together while we were there. We also went to Nauvoo in February and October and enjoyed it both times. TJ has been a great traveler overall, for which we are extremely grateful. We are heading to Utah for Christmas this year, which will be my first Christmas home since getting married over 4 years ago, so we’re really excited for that.

The highlight of the year overall has just been the joys of parenthood. It’s been so fun to watch TJ grow and learn, from crawling and his first words, to the first steps and some real communication. He has such a sweet spirit and we feel so blessed to have him as part of our family. We can’t believe that he’s already a year old!

We hope this letter finds you happy and in good health. May you enjoy this season as we celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. Thanks for your friendship, and please keep in touch.

Matthew, Valerie, and TJ Evans
